Children from grades K - 3 meet after school for homework assistance and engaging educational activities. These activities are available in part by partnerships with other nonprofits, including art projects with The Bascom, Highlands/Cashiers Land Trust, Highlands Nature Center, Yoga of Highlands.
Classes are designed for both children and adults from numerous native languages to teach reading and writing proficiency in the English language. Classes are conveniently held after regular work hours and include a free dinner and childcare. Click to view virtual ESL Online videos!
Students grades 4-12 meet Monday through Friday for assistance with homework, papers, research, and overall comprehension of the student's curriculum.
Early intervention is offered to the youngest residents of Macon County through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. TL&LC volunteers work with Macon County child care organizations to provide early literacy programs for our littlest learners.
TL&LC volunteers work in 5 Macon County Schools to bolster students' reading skills.
TL&LC provides large-print books to senior care facilities in Macon County. Books are delivered to the facilities and are exchanged with new books on a regular basis
Self-guided preparatory courses are offered, free of charge, to help students pass their GED test and to better prepare them for the workforce.
One-on-one tutoring is available for adults who want to build and/or strengthen their literacy levels.
One-on-one tutoring is offered twice a week for adults and students of any age in any subject.
